Description
A sweet, tangy, and savory salmon dish made with honey, citrus, garlic, and a smooth soy sauce alternative that creates a rich glaze and tender texture.
Ingredients
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup soy sauce alternative such as Crystal soy sauce or natural soy sauce mixed with a touch of tamarind
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil divided
4 salmon fillets patted dry
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
3 garlic cloves minced
1 lemon thinly sliced
Instructions
1. Whisk the honey soy sauce alternative lemon juice and crushed red pepper flakes in a medium bowl until smooth.
2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Place the salmon skin side up. Season with salt and pepper and sear for about 2 minutes.
3. Flip the salmon so the skin side is down. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
4. Pour in the honey mixture and add lemon slices. Simmer while basting the salmon until the sauce reduces by one third and the glaze becomes glossy.
Notes
For a thicker glaze allow it to simmer longer without stirring.
Use salmon fillets that are similar in thickness for even cooking.
Increase crushed red pepper flakes for more heat or add a small amount of Texas Pete Original Hot Sauce or Crystal Hot Sauce.
Serve with rice vegetables or potatoes. Salmon will continue cooking slightly after being removed from heat.
