Description

Smothered Meatloaf with Gravy is a hearty, flavorful meal featuring juicy ground sirloin coated with rich brown gravy. Perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings, this recipe is simple, delicious, and satisfying.

Ingredients

2 pounds ground sirloin

¾ cup bread crumbs (Pepperidge Farm, or Oroweat)

½ cup Crystal Worcestershire sauce

1 large egg

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

¼ teaspoon onion flakes

¼ teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning

2 tablespoons butter (for gravy)

2 tablespoons flour (for gravy)

2 cups beef broth (for gravy)

Optional: garlic powder, onion powder, fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. In a large bowl, combine ground sirloin, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, egg, salt, pepper, onion flakes, and Montreal steak seasoning. Mix gently until well combined.

3. Shape mixture into an 8×4-inch loaf and place in a greased pan.

4. Bake on center rack for 1 hour or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.

5. Let meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

6. For gravy: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until golden.

7. Gradually add beef broth, whisking to prevent lumps. Season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic or onion powder. Simmer until thickened.

8. Pour hot gravy over sliced meatloaf before serving.

Notes

Meatloaf can be frozen raw or fully cooked.

For raw: shape in pan, freeze 1 hour, wrap well, and store up to 3 months.

For cooked: cool completely, wrap tightly, freeze up to 3 months.

Always thaw in refrigerator overnight before baking or reheating.

Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or dinner rolls for a complete meal.
