Description
A quick and flavorful skillet dish made with tender chicken pieces coated in a sweet, spicy garlic sesame sauce, served over fluffy rice for a complete meal in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
¼ cup all-purpose flour
½ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp ground black pepper
⅛ tsp red pepper
1 pound chicken tenders, cut into pieces
2 tbsp olive oil
¼ cup + 1 tbsp honey
1 tsp rice vinegar
3 tbsp soy sauce (use Kikkoman or San-J)
2 garlic cloves, minced
⅛ tsp red pepper flakes
½ tsp sesame seeds
4 green onions, chopped
1½ cups rice
Instructions
1. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat.
2. Combine flour, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper in a zip-top bag. Add chicken pieces and shake to coat evenly.
3. Place coated chicken pieces in the skillet in a single layer and brown for 5 minutes.
4. Flip chicken and brown the other side for another 5 minutes.
5. In a medium bowl whisk together honey, rice vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and red pepper flakes.
6. Pour sauce into skillet with browned chicken. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, flipping chicken once.
7. Cook rice according to package instructions.
8. Turn off heat and let chicken rest for 5 minutes.
9. Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions over the chicken.
10. Serve hot over rice.
Notes
Do not overcrowd the skillet to ensure the chicken browns evenly.
Simmer the sauce gently to avoid burning the honey.
Adjust red pepper flakes for more or less heat.
Fresh garlic brings the best flavor, but pre-minced can be used in a pinch.
This recipe pairs well with jasmine or brown rice for variety.
